But The Boogie Man Might Win

I recently spent quite a bit of time at the Republican Party of Texas Convention in Houston. Many of the Republicans in attendance were cordial and respectful. As you would expect, many of them were not sure what to think of Ron Paul supporters. Many of them were down right rude to the Ron Paul supporters. That is all simply part of human nature.

It was my observation that the Republicans who really believe in the "Party Platform" as a philosophy of life were open to the Ron Paul supporters. However, those who were for the "Party" were a bit different. They seemed to be constantly making comments, in one on one conversations and speeches alike, about "who the party nominates" for President. They would try to persuade those who were Ron Paul supporters or supporters of other candidates that even though "your" candidate did not win, we need to join together with one voice and support the "Party's" choice.

When I would recoil, they would attempt to persuade me to support John McCain. Their comments can best be summed up as follows:
"If you don't support John McCain, the boogie man will WIN! Then he will sneak into your room, steal all your toys and put zits on your face while you sleep at night!"

Let me summarize the points and my responses from an actual conversation I had with 2 individuals at the SRPT Convention.

Republican Party Promoter (RPP): McCain never lied to us about anything he stood for while he was in the Senate.
CD: He may not have lied, but he has certainly authored or co-authored a lot of legislation that does not match up with the principles of the Republican Party. And while some may believe in his "Road to DC" conversion. I do not. When Saul/Paul had his conversion on the road to Damascus, many of the Christians did not trust him and thought the conversion was a trick. Barnabas stepped up and believed in Paul. I wish I could be like Barnabas, but I just don't trust John McCain.
RPP: Do you really want Barak Obama to be in control of the nuclear launch codes (although they simply referred to them as "the suitcase")?
CD: I don't think Obama would know how to use it.
RPP: What about the Supreme Court? Do you want Obama to appoint the judges?
CD: I don't believe McCain will do any better with the people he would appoint. He has just been too buddy-buddy with the Democrats.
RPP: Well, I just don't know why you are here.
CD: I'm here because I support the Principles and the Platform of the Republican Party.
RPP: Who is going to carry the Republican Platform?
CD: The House of Representatives and the Senate can stand up against Obama, if he wins.
RPP: Well, that's not how it works, you just don't understand.
CD: Perhaps it would be best if we just agree to disagree.

On a positive note! After I left the room to go and wait on some friends, another person who heard the exchange quietly walked up to me and encouraged me to vote my conscience. Likewise, some of the people who were involved in adding the Pro-Life Plank to the platform some 20 years ago, voiced support to Ron Paul Supporters. They observed that the way we were being treated was almost identical to the way they were treated in the early 80's.

All of this leaves me with one thought. Will Barak Obama use the KC & the Sunshine Band or the Rob Zombie version of "I'm Your Boogie Man" for his theme song?

I am planning a slightly different approach. Infiltration seems more to my liking.

The Rep Party is so weak in leadership, that they literally salivate when they see someone with it - especially if they can speak publically.

Sad really. But then again, what did they expect when they walk around telling their membership who to vote for... because the other side might win. :o(
You simply will never cultivate leadership by telling everyone what to think and do.

Sorry its taken me a while to comment.

I had a very similar conversation at the RPI (Repugnant Party of Iowa) state convention although I must say when I suggested that McMark-O-Cain and Jorge the Younger Shrub should have been impeached for signing McCain-Feingold I was greeted with outright hatred.

Unless McCain dies in the next 30 days and does not get the nomination, I will be voting for Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party.

I'm also planning my schedule so that I can go to Minn-St.Paul to hear Ron Paul speak on the 2nd of Sept.
